The Only Drive-Up Climate Controlled Self Storage in Cornwall, Ontario

What is the difference between "Heated" and "Climate Controlled"?

Heated Storage focuses solely on temperature. We keep the unit above freezing during the winter months to protect items from thermal shock.

Climate Controlled Storage is a premium service that manages temperature, cooling, and humidity year-round. It creates a stable, neutral environment regardless of the weather outside.

Does humidity really matter if the unit is warm?

Yes—often more than the temperature itself. In a standard heated space, warm air can still hold moisture, which may lead to condensation on cold surfaces like metal or concrete floors. Climate control actively removes excess moisture from the air, which is the only way to truly prevent mold, mildew, and that "musty" smell.

What items must have climate control?

If you are storing any of the following, we strongly recommend a climate-controlled unit:

  • Wood Furniture: Prevents warping, cracking, or joint failure caused by expansion and contraction.
  • Electronics & Media: Protects sensitive circuitry and prevents disc rot or tape degradation.
  • Business Records & Paper: Keeps documents crisp and prevents yellowing or dampness.
  • Fabric & Leather: Essential for preventing mold growth on clothing, sofas, and leather goods.

Do I need it if I’m only storing for a few months?

If you are storing through a seasonal transition (like Winter to Spring), humidity and temperature swings are at their peak. For short-term storage of basic household goods, Heated is usually sufficient. However, for high-value or sensitive items, Climate Control provides peace of mind regardless of the duration.

Do I still need to put my boxes on pallets in a climate-controlled unit?

While our climate-controlled units are designed to prevent floor "sweating" and condensation, we always recommend a small air gap (like a pallet or shelving) for long-term storage. This ensures maximum air circulation around your belongings.
